TVMC Rejects Assisted Dying Bill, Affirms Sanctity of Life
The Thames Valley East Masaajid Council (TVMC), representing 65,000 Muslims across five parliamentary constituencies, firmly opposes the Assisted Dying Bill. The bill, which would allow terminally ill adults to end their lives with medical assistance, contradicts Islamic teachings that uphold life as a sacred trust from God.
Islamic scholars have long maintained that life and death are solely in the hands of Allah, as affirmed in the Qur’an and Hadith. While Islam encourages alleviating suffering, it forbids taking life, even in the face of hardship, which is viewed as a means of spiritual growth and purification.
TVMC urges the Muslim community to:
- Email MPs and Lords urging them to vote against the bill.
- Call on Muslim MPs to oppose the bill.
- Encourage Muslim healthcare professionals to express their objections.
- Unite with other faith and pro-life groups in opposition.
- Address the issue in all Friday sermon.
