Thames Valley East Masaajid Council (TVMC) asks for the RSHE (Religious and Sexual Health Education) to be aligned with Muslim family values. 10 July 2024

Thames Valley East Masaajid Council (TVMC), alongside local Muslim educators, responded to the government’s RSHE consultation, closing on July 11th 2024.

TVMC emphasized the need for RSHE to be aligned with Muslim family values, focusing on age-appropriate content and ensuring transparency, parental involvement, and the right to opt-in or out.

TVMC stressed the importance of parental involvement in shaping RSHE policies and urged schools to ensure a meaningful voice for parents in curriculum development. TVMC recommended that Schools should give adequate notice to parents on any consultation concerning at the school level and give them clear choice to opt-in or opt-out of certain aspects of RSHE education, in line with Muslim family values and beliefs. Schools should ensure alternative means for parents who may not have English as their first language to be effectively involved.

TVMC prepared a brief for parents on RSHE implications and their rights and asked local Masaajid to raise community awareness about RSHE through Friday sermons and other forms of communication.
